Interview with The Industry Leaders
June 1, 2023How to Promote Good Mental Habits in Your Child
July 28, 2023In a world where children diagnosed with mental health issues often endure lengthy waits for treatment and support, a profound question weighs on the minds of parents, educators, and concerned individuals alike: Is there more we can do to prevent mental health issues?
While it may seem sceptical to believe that we can entirely prevent mental health challenges, there are actions we can take to equip children with coping mechanisms.
The foundation of our efforts to prevent mental health issues lies in nurturing the social and emotional development of children and adolescents. By creating an environment that is both safe and supportive, they can develop essential skills that will aid them in managing stress and adversity. This is a mission that I passionately pursue in my work, aiming to empower young minds with knowledge about their own brains and emotion.
Understanding the Brain and Emotions
In Mind Marvels sessions, I emphasise the significance of understanding the brain and emotions. This understanding is a vital step in their journey toward emotional regulation and mental wellbeing. It is astonishing how even the simplest concepts about the brain’s functions can make a profound difference in a child’s life.
Armed with this knowledge, they are better equipped to navigate the challenges life throws their way.
Breathing Exercises hold a prominent place
Among the practical tools for emotional regulation that I teach, breathing exercises hold a prominent place. Breathing is an innate and powerful tool that can be harnessed to calm the storm within. Teaching children to focus on their breath during moments of stress or anxiety empowers them with an immediate and accessible means of self-soothing.
As a result, they become more resilient and capable of managing their emotional responses effectively.
“In a world that often encourages distraction and multitasking, mindfulness offers a break”
Introducing Mindfulness Techniques
Mindfulness techniques, another integral component of my approach, provide children with the ability to stay present in the moment. In a world that often encourages distraction and multitasking, mindfulness offers a break. It teaches children to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgement, fostering a sense of clarity and control over their emotional landscape. By practising mindfulness, they develop a valuable skill that can support positive mental health.
Positive affirmations play a pivotal role in promoting confidence and resilience among the children we work with. These affirmations serve as powerful, self-affirming statements that combat negative self-perception and foster a sense of self-worth.
