Understanding Stress: 5 Techniques to Help Manage Stress in Children
April 8, 2024Celebrating Diversity: Promoting Positivity for Pride Month
June 28, 2024Building stronger communities significantly impacts us as individuals, and strong communities improve our overall mental wellbeing as a collective.
According to a report by the Mental Health Foundation, in the UK, 50 per cent of mental health problems are established by age 14; therefore, it’s clear that we risk generations of young people getting to adulthood plagued by mental ill health.
Once poor mental health becomes systemic within our society, it will continue to diminish the mental health of the next generation. No generation has faced the combination of factors young people have experienced in recent years; therefore we need to face this societal issue head on.
How do we increase the amount of mental health support needed within our communities to combat a rise in poor mental health and help future generations?
Helping Teachers – A Holistic Approach
At Mind Marvels, we focus on building good habits and robust routines. Our community support system provides early support to children and helps staff and teachers’ wellbeing to ensure everyone thrives.
Intervention at a young age is essential, but we also need to look after our wellbeing to nurture resilience in children. Through the setbacks and challenges we face as adults and primary caregivers, we can demonstrate adaptability, which is a vital life skill.
Teaching staff are encouraged to join our online Wellbeing Hive, which is included in our school and nursery packages. This portal provides practical tools and wellbeing approaches, including live online wellbeing sessions, tools for inner calm and de-stressors, and useful techniques for managing overwhelm.
It’s well known that teachers and staff in UK schools suffer from immense stress; therefore, by increasing mental health literacy for adults and children and equipping everyone with the right tools, we hope to install a whole-school wellbeing approach.
Community-Minded Sessions
Poor mental health isn’t usually the result of one singular thing; it’s a combination of factors which worsen over time without the proper early intervention support. Factors include going through traumatic events or growing up in poverty or deprived areas, but we can strengthen mental wellbeing through building trusted relationships and solid education.
Mind Marvels embeds a trusted support network within communities through families in community group sessions. These sessions engage children through five steps—learn, move, connect, be mindful, and be kind—in a relaxing environment based on the NHS’ ‘5 Steps to Mental Wellbeing’.
Facilitating community sessions simply connects people, and that sense of social connection increases our overall happiness. In addition to meaningful connections, it creates an open environment that normalises discussing our mental health and coping strategies.
Healthy relationships between children and caregivers (whether that’s families, teachers, or staff at after-school clubs) are essential for our children’s emotional and social development. This open, cooperative communication strengthens bonds and trust.
Within our communities, we can introduce the building blocks to better mental health literacy and encourage more significant support for children and adults. Breaking down the stigma that surrounds mental health issues creates stronger community resilience.
Equipped with Mind Marvels’s tools, we can allow your school, nursery, or local community to help future generations feel better supported.
